The Land Cover Trends project produces a number of statistical and geographic summaries of land cover change. The geographic products include images of multiple years of change detection results. The time series land cover data for the selected sample blocks is used to compute statistics, which characterize the properties of an ecoregion. The change statistics are applicable for at least three levels of scale: (1) total enumerations of change for the individual 10 km by 10 km sample blocks, (2) change estimates for the ecoregion, and (3) change estimates for aggregations of ecoregions. At each of these levels, at least three sets of land cover change statistics are produced: (1) spatial extent of change per cover type over time, (2) statistical summaries of all land cover types over time, and (3) the land cover transformations from one cover type to another type occurring over time.
